Something About The Author: Monday, May 1, 1:30 p.m. The group will discuss books by Tracy Chevalier.

Around the World: Monday, May 21, 6:30 p.m. India is the chosen country; the group will read Behind the Beautiful Forevers by Katherine Boo.

Sci Fi / Fantasy: Wednesday, May 30, 7 p.m. The group will discuss The Circle by David Eggers.

Adult and Teen Programs

Crafters Café: Two opportunities to participate; Thursday, May 3, 6–7:30 p.m. or Saturday, May 5, 10:30 a.m.­-2 p.m. Create a decorative calligraphy keepsake for your favorite grad. Adults and teens are invited to join lettering design artist Debby Reelitz in this timely workshop. All ability levels are welcome. Create a decorated letter with the GMHS bear logo in the center and the grad’s name at the bottom. An alternate grad design is also available. See samples displayed at the library or online. Choose one of the two sessions and register with a $5 prepaid materials fee. Seating is limited; register early. All materials provided.

Choose Privacy: Wednesday, May 9, 6:30–7:30 p.m. Learn to make informed choices about privacy in the digital age. Pick up online and mobile privacy tips from Andrew Boyles Petersen and take home a printed guide to help navigate the latest Facebook data breach. There will be ample opportunity for questions. Registration recommended.

The ABCs of Bird ID: Thursday, May 17, 6:30–7:30 p.m. It’s a crash course in bird identification from longtime birder John Weeks. Learn to choose and use a field guide and gather practical knowledge from a local expert. Find out more about the CT Bird Atlas project and discover if you have the makings of a citizen scientist. Appropriate for adults and youth. Registration recommended.

Spring Bird Walk: Friday, May 18, 8–9:30 a.m. at Holcomb Farm. Bird identification skills are put into practice as John Weeks leads a walk on the grounds of Holcomb Farm. Dress appropriately for a birding adventure along the East trail. Registration recommended.

Children’s Programs

Programs will be cancelled if there is no school in Granby due to bad weather.

Wee Ones Story Time, birth – 2 years: Thursdays, May 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31 at 10:30 a.m. Board books, finger plays, songs and gentle movement for babies, crawlers and toddlers, with caregiver. No registration required, drop-ins welcome.

Preschool Story Time, ages 3 – 5: Tuesdays, May 1, 8, 15 and 22 at 10:30 a.m. (no May 29). Preschoolers with a caregiver share stories, songs, finger plays and a craft with Miss Joan. No registration required, drop-ins welcome.

Zumba, ages 5 ­­– 11: Saturday, May 5 at 11:45 a.m. Move it to music with instructor Amy Thompson. Join us for this fun-filled session at a new time. Preregistration is required, as space is limited to 12 participants.

Kids Book Club, The Book Crusaders, grades 2, 3 and 4: Thursdays, May 10 and 24, 4–5 p.m. Children in grades two to four are invited to read The Indian in the Cupboard by Lynne Reid Banks. Bring your own copy or checkout one of ours and join the discussion. Caregivers are welcome to participate. Please register.

Craft Week, all ages: Monday–Saturday, May 14–19. Drop in anytime during the week and create a fun project to take home. All materials supplied.

Family Movie Nights, all ages: Wednesdays: May 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30, beginning at 6 p.m. Drop in and enjoy a family-friendly film. We even provide the popcorn. Call for movie titles, no registration needed.

Cossitt Library

Adult / Teen / Main Room 

Writers Group: Tuesdays, May 8 and 22, 6–7:45 p.m., Library Upper Level. The group embraces writers of all genres; sessions feature writing prompts, critiques and readings. Work on your material with this friendly group every second and fourth Tuesday of the month.

Children’s Room

Cossitt Craft Days: May 3, 5, 8 and 10. Kids and caregivers are invited to browse for books and movies, then make and take home a simple craft project in 5 minutes or less. No fee, no registration.

Special Craft Time: Saturday, May 12, 1–3 p.m. Little hands are invited to get busy creating a Mother’s Day gift. No fee, no registration.
