Two opportunities to explore new GLT property

When Lucy Holcombe passed away in January of 2016, she left her beloved, 150-acre property on Silver Street in North Granby, to the Granby Land Trust. Lucy and her husband, Seth, were longtime, loyal and generous GLT supporters and friends. The GLT is forever grateful to them for this generous gift.

This Spring, you will have two opportunities, in April and again in June, to join the Land Trust for a guided hike of the Seth and Lucy Holcombe Preserve.

On Earth Day, Sunday, April 22, GLT Board Member and middle school science teacher Jen Plourde will run a Signs of Spring hike (think amphibians) on the property. The hike will begin at 1 p.m. Please meet Jen Plourde at the trailhead parking area on Silver Street. All children should be accompanied by an adult.  This hike is appropriate for children of all ages. We might get our feet wet, so please dress accordingly. In case of significant rain, please check the GLT Facebook page for an update. Raindate is April 29. RSVP to Jen Plourde at jlplourde@aol.com. No pets please.

Then, on Connecticut Trails Day, Sunday, June 3, the GLT will host another family-friendly hike on the property. Former middle school teacher Dave Emery will co-lead this hike with Jen Plourde (or they can split up, depending on the number of visitors we have), and they will be on the lookout for interesting items of natural interest as they crisscross the property on its spectacular trail system. All children should be accompanied by an adult. No pets please. The hike will begin at the Preserve trailhead/parking area on Silver Street. In case of significant rain, please check the GLT Facebook page for an update. RSVP to Jen Plourde at jlplourde@aol.com.
