Voting in Granby for the Presidential Preference Primary will take place Tuesday, April 26,  from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the Community Gym at Granby Memorial High School.
On primary day, the high school and middle school will be in normal session. Students will not use the high school parking lot to ensure ample parking for voters. Voters and parents will use the North Granby Road entrance to the high school, so please try to avoid the opening and closing of school—7 to 8 am and 2:15 to 3:30 p.m. The Salmon Brook (10/202) entrance will be reserved for buses. To get in and out quickly, avoid voting during the morning and evening commuter rush hours.
This vote is to choose delegates for the national party conventions that will be held this summer. Actual voting for the President will be done in November. Voters will also have the option to choose an uncommitted delegate in this primary.
On March 22, Denise Merrill will have announced the order that the national candidates will appear on the ballots and sample ballots should be available for viewing on the SOS website: sots.state.ct.us
Democratic candidates who qualified to have their delegates on the ballot:  Hillary Clinton, Roque “Rocky” De La Fuente, Bernie Sanders (and Uncommitted)
Republican candidates qualified to have their delegates on the ballot: Jeb Bush, Dr. Ben Carson, Ted Cruz, John Kasich, Marco Rubio, Donald Trump (and Uncommitted)
For all primaries in the State of Connecticut, you must be a party member of the party you wish to vote for. State law prohibits cross voting in another political party’s primary. Unaffiliated or Independent voters are not allowed to vote in primaries.
Private, independent voting option
Vote-by-Phone technology will be utilized for the primary. This system allows people who prefer to not fill out a paper ballot, or people with disabilities, to vote privately and independently on Election Day at the polling site using a system specifically set up for this purpose. To cast a vote, you must be a registered voter and come to the polls on Election Day. To try out the system, call IVS at 1-888-661-6366. You will need the following codes: poll worker ID, enter 1234; ballot access ID enter 101 (township Addison). Follow the voting instructions to make ballot selections. Be patient and listen to all the information the first time, because once you are familiar with the system, it allows you to skip past instructions and vote quickly.
Curbside Voting
Physically disabled or handicapped voters can choose to vote using an absentee ballot from the Town Clerk (see below) before Election Day. Voters who have a temporary medical issue on Election Day can participate with curbside voting by making a request for help from two assistant registrars while the voter remains in a designated parking space. The assistant registrars check the voter in and are issued a ballot in a privacy folder that they jointly carry to the voter. After the ballot is completed, the Assistant Registrars carry the completed ballot to the optical scanner voting machine to be counted. This service is only available to people who are temporarily physically handicapped.
Poll workers needed
The registrar’s office is compiling an email list of poll workers. Poll workers can be volunteers or paid. Volunteer poll workers must be at least 16 years old and can choose to volunteer for a few hours, as desired, to fit their schedules. If you would like to be added to the list or if you did not receive the poll worker e-letter, please contact the registrars at the email below. Poll worker training will be done in April for the referendum and presidential primary; in August for the federal primary, and again in October for the November 8 election. Poll worker training is required. For more information or to apply, please contact the registrars at vr.granby.ct@gmail.com
