GAA Spring Show
The Granby Artists Association announces a new spring show of member’s artwork at the Simsbury Library in the downstairs program room and display case, from May 2 through May 31. The library hours are: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 9:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Sunday 1 to 5 p.m.
The public is invited to a reception for the artists on Thursday, May 5 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the program room. This is a free event.

The National Day of Prayer was designated by Congress as a day when residents are asked to come together and pray, especially for our country. Thursday, May 5, marks the 65th annual observance of the National Day of Prayer. The 2016 theme is Wake Up America; the Scripture focus this year is Isaiah 58:1a: “Shout it aloud, do not hold back. Raise your voice like a trumpet.”

The eighth annual hanging basket sale benefitting Mary’s Kitty Korner will be held Saturday, May 7 and Sunday, May 8, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (rain or shine) at 281 Salmon Brook St. in Granby.
Ten-inch hanging baskets are $20 each or two for $30; 12” hanging baskets are $30 each or two for $50; 12” patio pots are $20; patio tomato plants are $12.50 or two for $20, and Boston ferns are $20 each or two for $30. Don’t forget Mother’s Day.

MS Support

The Salmon Brook Historical Society will hold its annual Spring Flea Market on Saturday, May 14, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Salmon Brook Historical Society. Anyone interested in volunteering to help or any high school student needing community service hours for graduation, may call Todd Vibert.

Civic Club gets DAR lesson
The Granby Civic Club will meet on Thursday, May 19, at 1 p.m. in the Senior Center. The speaker will be Joan Anderson, of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Anderson will give a history about the start of the DAR organization, which celebrates its 125th anniversary this year. The society’s goals are to perpetuate the memory and spirit of the men and women who achieved American independence, to foster patriotism and develop enlightened opinions of citizens, and to provide valued service to veterans.
Come to the meeting to hear more about DAR; guests are always welcome and refreshments will be served. For additional information, contact Ginny Wutka (ginny@lostacres.com).
