GAA Spring Show
The Granby Artists Association announces a new spring show of member’s artwork at the Simsbury Library in the downstairs program room and display case, from May 2 through May 31. The library hours are: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 9:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Sunday 1 to 5 p.m.
The public is invited to a reception for the artists on Thursday, May 5 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the program room. This is a free event.
Day of Prayer 
The National Day of Prayer was designated by Congress as a day when residents are asked to come together and pray, especially for our country. Thursday, May 5, marks the 65th annual observance of the National Day of Prayer. The 2016 theme is Wake Up America; the Scripture focus this year is Isaiah 58:1a: “Shout it aloud, do not hold back. Raise your voice like a trumpet.”
Valley Brook Community Church invites all residents of Granby to gather at the flagpoles at the Granby Municipal Town Complex on May 5 at 7 p.m. to pray for town, state and national leaders as well as first responders and military, church, family, education, media and arts and entertainment.
Hanging Basket Sale
The eighth annual hanging basket sale benefitting Mary’s Kitty Korner will be held Saturday, May 7 and Sunday, May 8, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (rain or shine) at 281 Salmon Brook St. in Granby.
Ten-inch hanging baskets are $20 each or two for $30; 12” hanging baskets are $30 each or two for $50; 12” patio pots are $20; patio tomato plants are $12.50 or two for $20, and Boston ferns are $20 each or two for $30. Don’t forget Mother’s Day.
MS Support
A support group for those with multiple sclerosis meets the second and fourth Monday of each month, from 1 to 3 p.m., at the Granby Senior Center. Significant others and caregivers are welcome to attend. For more information call 860-653-1986 or 860-428-2463.
Windy Hill Guitar Studio Performances
The students at the Windy Hill Guitar Studio will perform at the following events:
Wednesday, May 18, at 4:30 p.m. at the Waste Not, Want Not Community Dinner, Fellowship Hall, South Congregational Church, 242 Salmon Brook Street, Granby.
Saturday, June 4, at 4 p.m., a recital at the West Granby United Methodist Church. For more information call 860-653-6146.
Pancake Breakfast 
Come join us for Granby 4-H’s annual Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, May 21, from 7 to 10:30 a.m. at the South Congregational Church of Granby. There will be delicious breakfast fare with coffee, tea and juice. Cost for adults is $8; seniors and children ages 3–12 is $6; no cost for children under 3. Come support a club that strives to better the community and empower youth through educational programs and community service.
SBHS Flea Market
The Salmon Brook Historical Society will hold its annual Spring Flea Market on Saturday, May 14,  from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Salmon Brook Historical Society. Anyone interested in volunteering to help or any high school student needing community service hours for graduation, may call Todd Vibert.
SBHS is located at 208 Salmon Brook Street (next door to the Lost Acres Firehouse). Come and see what is selling and visit with friends as the historical Society has become a Granby tradition.
Camera Club
The Granby Camera Club will meet on Monday, May 2, at the Granby Senior Center at 7 p.m. The meeting will be a portfolio night as well as another group editing opportunity.

Civic Club gets DAR lesson
The Granby Civic Club will meet on Thursday, May 19, at 1 p.m. in the Senior Center. The speaker will be Joan Anderson, of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution.  Anderson will give a history about the start of the DAR organization, which celebrates its 125th anniversary this year. The society’s goals are to perpetuate the memory and spirit of the men and women who achieved American independence, to foster patriotism and develop enlightened opinions of citizens, and to provide valued service to veterans.

The Farmington Valley VNA’s free blood pressure screenings are available without appointment Tuesday, May 3, 9–10:30 a.m. at the YMCA in Granby; Monday, May 2, 11 a.m.–12 p.m., at East Granby Senior Center, and 11:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m. at East Hartland Town Hall; Monday, May 16, 11:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m., at First Church Parish, East Hartland; Thursdays, May 5, 12, 19 and 26, 11 a.m.–12:30 p.m., at Granby Senior Center.

Mary’s Kitty Korner, a no-kill cat shelter in Granby, is looking for volunteers to help care for its kitties until they find their “fur-ever” homes.
