The Granby Community Fund (GCF), a local 501(c) (3) organization, collects donations through a town-wide mailing to contribute to 15 organizations and social services that support the residents of Granby. Granby residents and member organization representatives serve as volunteers on the Board of Directors. When the GCF was established in 1960, the purpose was, and continues to be, to unite the annual charitable collections of Granby’s various non-profit agencies into one community wide solicitation. From door-to-door solicitation, originally conducted by the nonprofit organizations themselves, to a town wide mailing, our local Granby organization has worked remarkably well for 55 years now.
Starting with modest goals in the $10,000 range in the 1960s, the GCF has grown such that in recent years it has raised in excess of $90,000 per year, and has never failed to meet its goal for charitable giving. The GCF also receives payroll deductions from residents who designate the GCF in their United Way campaign at work (account code: 5076 – Location: Hartford). Payroll deductions represent about half of our support. Also, ask if your employer offers a matching gift. If so, complete the proper form and mail directly to the GCF.
The Granby Community Fund’s campaign goal this year is $80,000. The following are organizations that they will be supporting:
Arc of the Farmington Valley, Favarh
YMCA
Holcomb Farm
Marquis of Granby
Granby Social Services Fund
Meals on Wheels
Salvation Army
Granby Senior Van
Granby Land Trust
Granby Parents for a Safe Graduation
Granby Emergency Fuel Bank
Waste Not Want Not Community Kitchen
American Red Cross
Girl Scouts – Granby
Boy Scouts – Granby
