Each year, the Board of Selectmen invites high school students to apply for the two available student liaison positions on the board. In addition to keeping the board and town apprised of significant goings-on at Granby Memorial, students are educated in the ways of town government, which may prove valuable in their roles at school and in their future.
For the 2015–16 school year, the two students are Alex Domanico and Mark McDermott, both seniors.
McDermott is returning for a second year, as he was also liaison during 2014–15. He has an interest in helping and protecting people and he feels that government is the way in which a lot of people can be helped at once. He is appreciative of being given this opportunity to serve at a young age.
Domanico has always had an interest in politics, as evidenced by his running the mock presidential election at Wells Road School when he was in the fifth grade. Now he participates in student government and has formed a political club. He is eager to participate in the “real thing.”
