Proprietors James and Sandy Chen, two of the Farmington Valley’s top restaurateurs have  designed a true fine dining experience named @thebarn, a  new contemporary steakhouse and wine bar located in the center of Granby at 17R East Granby Road.
The 170-seat, 4,000 sq. ft. venue caters to every guest’s tastes, featuring a full service bar, upstairs lounge, raw bar, and multiple dining areas including a three-season patio. The bar features a discerning wine list selected by certified sommelier Matthew Blumenfeld as well as a wide array of martinis, specialty cocktails and 10 craft beers on tap. Chef Dan Fortin’s menu offerings include steaks, seafood and raw bar with a variety of small plates.
James Chen is proud to be a part of the community and enjoys giving back whenever possible. He commissioned a handcrafted communal table, which seats over 20 people. “This is just not a large table, it is about being social, sharing, drinking a glass of wine, eating some great food” says Chen. With this all in mind, it also allows him to sponsor non-profit programs, community partnerships and special events.
The Granby Chamber of Commerce organized a ribbon cutting for the Grand Opening of @thebarn on September 15, 2015 at 3. The local town officials, members of the board of directors, James and Sandy Chen, and the management of @thebarn were in attendance. Reservations for dinner are recommended.
Chef Dan Fortin began his culinary studies at the University of Southern New Hampshire. Upon graduation in 1995, he landed the position of Sous Chef in Ann Howard’s kitchen at Apricots in Farmington. Most recently, as part of the team at Infinity Hall in Norfolk, Dan’s vision and talents created to create a progressive American cuisine menu that made Infinity Bistro a destination restaurant. Hartford Magazine gave it four stars, and it has been NY Times reviewed. Chef Fortin continues to provide an eclectic cuisine and dining experience.
