Jose Antonio Martinez, Jr. started his career with the Granby Police Department on Wednesday, Feb. 18. He received his new badge at a swearing in ceremony attended by family, friends and his new co-workers.

Officer Martinez is not new to law enforcement. He had a successful 20-year career with the Bloomfield Police Department, having retired at the rank of sergeant. He brings extensive training and experience to the Granby Police Department. Officer Martinez has a strong interest in community policing and working with the youth of his community. He has been a school resource officer and supervisor, and part of the juvenile review board. He worked with police explorers, a Citizen’s Awareness Police Academy and also supervised the police records division. Earlier in his career, he was assigned to the North Central Narcotics Team, working drug cases throughout the region.

Because Officer Martinez is a certified police officer, he will not have to attend the police academy. After a short familiarization and training period, he will begin patrolling the streets of Granby.

Officer Martinez lives in South Windsor with his wife Yomara and four children, Isabella, Kiomary, Jayden and Yazmi,
