Native American Archaeology in CT: Wednesday, June 6, 1 p.m. Presented by State Archaeologist Brian Jones. The archaeology of this state provides fertile ground for understanding Native American life, their ways and much more. Cost $5.

Let’s Go To The Hop Sock Hop: Wednesday, June 13, 5 p.m. Get out your poodle skirts and leather jackets as we turn back time to the 1950s. Enjoy tunes from the past with live music from Double Trouble. Dinner includes hamburgers, chicken fingers and French fries with root beer floats for dessert. Cost $8. Prizes awarded to two best costumes. Register by June 6.

Wild Alaska: Tuesday, June 19, 1 p.m. Presented by photographer Gary Melnysyn, a Granby resident and award winning photographer, who will provide a stunning and spectacular look into Wild Alaska. Free.

Strawberry Social and Summer Memories: Thursday, June 21, 1:30 p.m. What’s better than a lazy summer afternoon with strawberry shortcake and good conversation? Send or bring in a picture of your favorite summer memory for our slide show. Cost $5. Register and submit your photo by June 14.

A Sister to Honor: Tuesday, June 26, 1 p.m. Presented by author Lucy Ferris, who will discuss her book, A Sister to Honor, as well as her other works, and what it is like to be a writer. Free.

Trivia Night: Thursday, June 28, 4:30 p.m. Join staff, bring your friends, create teams or play solo. Wraps, pasta salad and dessert round out this event. Register by June 21.

For Your Health And Wellness

Healing Meals, Healthy Cooking: Tuesday, June 5, 10 a.m. Presented by Sarah Leathers, Healing Meal Project. Do you belong to a CSA, shop at local Farmer’s Markets or get produce from the Holcomb Farm program? Learn traditional and healthy ways to make use of local, fresh produce. Free.

Nordic Walking: Starting Tuesday, June 5, 10 a.m., led by Jack Fila, certified Nordic walking instructor. Learn basic skills of Nordic walking, techniques that engage your entire body. Great for any fitness level. Nordic walking poles will be provided. Wear appropriate footwear for short, easy walks outdoors. Classes will meet at Salmon Brook Park by the band shell. Cost $35 for the 4-week class.

The Con Artists Playbook: Tuesday, June 12, 1 p.m. This interactive AARP seminar takes a look at the psychology behind identity theft, fraud and scams. Actual footage of scammers as well as insights and advice to arm you with tools to keep you safe.

Veteran’s Coffee: Tuesday, June 19, 10 a.m. Presented by Hartford HealthCare at Home, this monthly coffee is to learn about benefits, entitlements and other services. Veteran liaison Wayne Rioux facilitates the group discussion. Free. Registration is requested, but drop-ins are welcome.

Adventure Club, Paddle Boarding 101: Friday, June 22, departing 12 p.m. Collinsville Canoe and Kayak. Stand Up Paddle Boarding offers a new perspective on exploring waterways. Learn the fundamentals: getting familiar with equipment, paddling technique and safety. Session takes place on the water. Cost $30. Register by June 15.

Berkshire Botanical Gardens: Wednesday, June 27, departing 9 a.m. Enjoy a guided tour of 23 display gardens highlighting plants native to the region. Lunch on your own at No. 6 Depot (an old train station). Cost $17. Register by June 20.

Fitness And Exercise

The Granby Senior Center offers a variety of affordable exercise classes throughout the week including yoga, Chi Gong, line dancing, aerobics and more. Intensity levels range from house cat to cheetah! Classes run by session or you can pay a drop-in fee. Featured Class For June

Chair Yoga Tuesdays at 2:30 p.m.

Enhanced breathing, increased blood flow, reduced tension and better posture are achieved through yoga poses. This is a great class for those with limited mobility.

Instructor Paula Pirog teaches several classes at the Center including Gentle Balance and Movement as well as Traditional Yoga. Her positive approach and lively manner combined with her extensive knowledge of yoga are a huge asset to her participants.
