White oak leaf mono print by Michael Bentley.

Seasons of the Granby Oak Art Show is a community art project organized by the Granby Artists as part of its 25th anniversary celebrations. Granby Artists invite the public to create artwork inspired by Granby’s beloved Dewey-Granby Oak to exhibit at the show. All ages, all levels of experience and all media are welcome. The show will be at Lost Acres Vineyard from Dec. 6 to 31, with an artists’ reception on Dec. 6, from 5 to 7 p.m.

The theme of this community art show is the Dewey-Granby Oak. This massive and ancient white oak is located on Day Street and owned by the Granby Land Trust, which cares for the tree so that it can be part of Granby for generations to come. This grand tree has inspired many artists and hopefully will inspire you to create a work to show. Your artwork can be inspired by part of the tree: a leaf, an acorn, a branch; how the tree looks in a particular season; or include people or animals who enjoy its shade or shelter—it is up to you! All mediums are welcome—photography, drawing, sculpture, collage, painting, fiber arts, glass, woodworking, etc.

This is not a juried show, however there will be three prizes given. The top prize is $200 and the winner will be selected by the Granby Land Trust. The other two prizes are voted on by the public. These two people’s choice awards will be $100 each.

Advanced registration is required at the Granby Artists’ website: granbyartists.org Artwork drop off is on Dec. 5 and 6. Please check the website for show details including drop off and pick up times and the show prospectus. All two-dimensional art pieces must be framed with wire on back for hanging. 3D artists must provide a pedestal for their pieces. Maximum size is 30 inches on longest length.
