The Granby Road Race features both a 5K and a 10K course, each offering a unique experience. The 10K race winds along a rolling, scenic route that combines paved roads with trails through the picturesque McLean Game Refuge. Meanwhile, the 5K offers a shorter but equally enjoyable course, traveling partly on roads and partly through the peaceful surroundings of Salmon Brook Park. Together, these courses showcase the natural charm of Granby while providing a rewarding challenge for participants of all ages and abilities.

This year’s race saw outstanding performances across the board. In the 5K, Emma Lynch of Granby claimed the top female position with an impressive time of 22:46.47, while Mark Gaedje of East Granby secured first place among male runners, finishing in 18:16.57. The 10K also featured remarkable results, with Addy Earl of Granby taking first place among female competitors in 42:55.17, and Douglas Pearse of Branford earning the top male spot with a time of 37:16.08. These achievements reflect the competitive spirit and athletic excellence that define the Granby Road Race each year.

A special shout-out goes to the youngest participants in the Kids 1 Mile race, whose enthusiasm and determination brought extra energy and excitement to the day. Their participation highlights the race’s commitment to fostering a love of fitness and community from an early age.

Beyond the runners, the success of the event is deeply rooted in the dedication of the many volunteers and organizations that make it possible. An amazing group of volunteers worked tirelessly behind the scenes to plan and execute every detail of the race, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience for all.

Equally vital were the contributions of local public safety and community groups. The Granby Police Department, Fire Department, Ambulance, Granby Public Schools, DPW and CT CERT team all played essential roles in keeping participants safe. The “Blue Blazer Guys,” who faithfully mark each mile along the course, once again provided a reassuring presence and an important tradition for runners navigating the route.

The event also benefited from the generous support of sponsors, whose contributions help sustain and grow the race each year. The Granby Camera Club and Jake Koteen captured countless memorable moments, preserving the spirit and excitement of the event.

Importantly, the race benefits the YMCA’s Annual Campaign, helping ensure that individuals and families can access YMCA programs regardless of their ability to pay. As another successful year wraps up, the community is already looking ahead. Be sure to save the date for May 1, 2027, when the Granby Road Race tradition continues.
