The Granby Lions Club’s tradition of flying dedicated American flags in and around Granby center from Memorial Day through Veteran’s Day is a tangible reminder of the dedication and sacrifices made by our town’s veterans. The Lions Club continues this tradition by offering Granby residents the opportunity to dedicate one of these flags in memory of a beloved veteran, be they family or friend.
These American flags and their poles are inspected each spring for any issue that might warrant replacement or repair (faded, torn or soiled flags, bent or broken poles, etc.). We are grateful to the assistance from Granby’s Public Works Department and the American Legion Shannon-Shattuck Post 182 for flag posting, replacement and/or disposal.
Your contribution will help the Granby Lions Club sustain this time-honored practice for generations to come. A donation of $100 (per name) will fund a dedicated flag to an honored veteran in perpetuity. Your donation supports replacing damaged poles, flags and mounting hardware. Due to limitations set by the pole owners (electrical/telephone/cable companies), there are a finite number of poles to use for this effort. Because of this, multiple dedications on one flag pole are now necessary. Wording for veteran dedications must be limited to “In memory of (deceased veteran’s name)” or “In honor of (active duty or discharged veteran’s name).” You may include their service branch as well, but again, please keep in mind wording limits, as there is only so much space on any given label.
Dedications and donations should be made via check (made out to Granby Lions) and mailed to: Granby Lions Flag Committee, P.O. Box 191, Granby, CT 06035. Please print/type your dedication, and be sure to include your email or phone number just in case we have questions. If you need further information, please email the Flag Committee Chair at dhkhome1@gmail.com A current listing of all dedications up to and including March 2026 appears below.
