On Dec. 11 and 12, volunteers from the Granby Lions Club and Granby Memorial High School Leo Club helped host the Lions Club Special Education Children’s Holiday Party. The event welcomed 410 students and staff from eight towns, including those from Wells Road and Kelly Lane schools in Granby.
The event took place at St. Robert Bellarmine Church Hall in Windsor Locks across two days, necessitated by the significant increase in attendees and the challenge of securing a venue with a capacity for the attendees and volunteers.
The event, now in its 48th year, is run by the Granby Lions and seven other Lions Clubs to offer a holiday celebration for participating students.
Students and staff arrived at the party by district bus, where they enjoyed a lively atmosphere in a decorated hall. They danced to DJ Tom Knight’s music, created crafts and watched a magic show. Members of Granby Memorial High School Leos joined the celebration in character costumes, singing carols, dancing and mingling with students. After lunch, Santa and Mrs. Claus stopped by to hand out teacher-chosen presents and pose for photos with everyone.
We appreciate everyone who contributed time, services or goods to make this event possible, including the eight participating Lions Clubs, Magician Rich Rothstein, DJ Tom Knight, The Skyline Restaurant, Geissler’s, Costco, Walmart and Flower Power Farms. Special thanks for financial support provided by the East Windsor Greater Together Community Fund, Windsor Federal Bank and the Town of Windsor Locks.
