The Granby Grange welcomed Connecticut State Grange Deputy Patrick O’Brien to its Dec. 14 meeting and included a special moment of fellowship as Life Member Nancy Silkey was formally welcomed into Granby Grange.

During the business session, members voted to accept all recommendations presented by the Grange’s Building Committee, including a $20,000 private donation to address several urgent needs of the organization. The donation represents a significant investment in the preservation and continued operation of the historic hall, as well as the donor’s commitment to the long-term longevity of Granby Grange.

The funds will first repay loans to Grange members who quickly stepped forward last month to assist when the hall’s oil tank cracked. Additional funds will be directed toward upgrading the building’s electrical system, a significant improvement to ensure safety and reliability. Any remaining balance will be reserved to provide matching funds for future grants, which often require local financial support to secure outside funding.

In recognition of the donor’s generosity, the Grange voted to grant naming rights to the main meeting room in the basement hall. A formal dedication ceremony, during which the donor will be publicly named, will be held to honor this contribution.

Following the conclusion of business, members and guests gathered for a festive holiday buffet, a gift exchange and two rounds of lively bingo. Both bingo games were won by junior and youth members of the Grange, adding to the celebratory spirit and highlighting the critical role younger members play in the organization.
