Help shape the next five years

The Granby Board of Education has started to develop a new five-year strategic plan that serves as the blueprint for its school districts’ priorities, goals and actions. The strategic plan outlines the goals and strategic initiatives for the BOE for the upcoming five years. In addition, the BOE is hoping to identify more concrete and measurable metrics to establish progress on those goals. The board invites input from students, families, staff and community members to help define the mission. Consider attending a virtual meeting to be held Thursday, Dec. 4, 6 to 7 p.m. to share your ideas and perspectives.

The last strategic plan was developed and implemented in 2020, in the midst of the COVID pandemic. Since then, the needs of our students have changed significantly—and continue to evolve. Many students are still coping from the disruption of the pandemic, both academically and mentally. As screen time became the norm, social anxiety and bullying increased. These days, targeted academic interventions, social-emotional learning and community building for sense of belonging and bullying prevention, are critical components of the classroom experience, not just here in Granby, but in school districts across the country.

In developing this strategic plan, the board of education is taking a close look at our most current student climate and test data and seeking input from families to define our vision and values. Information on how to join meetings, share ideas and send feedback can be found at granby.k12.ct.us/ as well as Superintendent Burke’s Facebook and Instagram pages.

Working closely with our families and guided by our shared vision and values, we will create a five-year strategic plan that supports every student’s success and strengthens our community’s pride and confidence in the future of Granby Public Schools.
