On Sept. 19 the GMHS Athletic Booster Club hosted Rovers Night, a long-standing tradition in Granby where all of the Rovers (town travel soccer) players, families and coaches are invited to attend back-to-back Boys and Girls Varsity soccer games under the lights at the high school. The event is always well-attended, with hundreds of community members packing the stands and the Rovers lining the fields to high-five the high school players at the start of each game.
This year, fans feasted on sandwiches and nuggets from Chick-fil-a and enjoyed flavored ice from Kona Ice, in addition to all the delicious Snack Shack staples. Spectators took part in Rovers Night Raffle and won some amazing prizes generously donated by various local businesses, fellow nonprofits like the GMHS Fine Arts Booster Club and Granby PTO, and the GMHS Boys and Girls soccer teams.
There are too many people to thank here including the amazing GMHS Athletic Booster Club volunteers; raffle donors; the GMHS players, coaches and staff; the high school facilities crew and Granby PD, among others. We do have to give a special shout out to all of the Rovers players, families and coaches who took the time to come out and support high school athletics. Their enthusiastic participation and energy were felt and very much appreciated by the high school athletes and coaches alike. Rovers Night is always the single biggest fundraiser for the GMHS Athletic Booster Club, and we are so grateful for patronage of the Snack Shack and half-time raffles!
Finally, it would be remiss not to recognize the Boys and Girls Varsity soccer teams and coaching staff for putting on an amazing night of soccer under the lights. The boys team ultimately lost 2-3 in a hard-fought battle against Lewis Mills, with goals by Brodie Boyd and Ben DelGallo. The girls team enjoyed a 2-0 victory over East Granby, with goals by Cassie Earl and Sara Slade.
As a reminder, you can find GMHS athletic schedules at gmhsboosters.com, and admission to most events is free. Good luck to all of the high school athletic teams during the rest of their fall season and state tournament games. GO BEARS!
