At the June 1 Board of Selectmen’s meeting, two important actions occurred that “will move the Town of Granby forward.” The first action was the appointment of six town residents—Christopher LaVigne, Mark Gottlieb, Peter Anderson, Anne Adamson, Michael Lengvarsky and William Pascucci—to the Public Building and Capital Project Committee. These residents will be joined by three elected officials—Mark Neumann, David Peling and Kent McCord—to round out the group.
The PBCPC was assembled to tap into the vast knowledge and experience existing in the community to guide Granby capital projects of more than $250,000 from start to finish. The PBCPC will meet at least monthly on the second Wednesday of every month at 6 p.m. in the Senior Center.
The committee’s immediate workload is to understand and identify the reasons for the high school track’s failure and what responsible, cost-effective solution should be executed.
The second action was the appointment of Mark Fiorentino, Heather Lombardo and Toby Proctor to the Intra-Board Advisory Committee.
The IBAC was assembled to oversee the examination of Town and Board of Education administrative operations including finance, budgeting, accounting, human resources, facilities and other supportive functions to arrive at an organizational structure that is efficient, effective and not redundant. The IBAC will meet at least monthly on the second Monday of every month at 6 p.m. in the Senior Center.
The IBAC’s immediate workload will be to review the eight consultant submissions from responses to the Town and Board of Education’s Request for Proposal to identify the firm that has the knowledge and experience to assist Granby in what will be a formidable task.
Both committees also include the superintendent of schools and the town manager as non-voting members.
These committees composed of residents, elected officials and staff are working closely together and rolling up their sleeves seeking to create workable, long-lasting, cost-effective solutions to Granby initiatives.
Please join me in thanking the individuals who are generously giving their time and talents to make the Town of Granby the community of Granby.
