The vibrant spirit of community and volunteerism was alive and well at the 2025 Granby Grange Agricultural Fair, held on Sept. 6, at the historic Granby Grange Hall. Amid the lively crowds, homemade pies and family-friendly fun, one moment stood out as particularly meaningful: the presentation of the 2025 Community Citizen of the Year Award to local painter Craig Ellis.

A beloved figure in the Granby arts and civic scene, Ellis was honored by the Grange for his outstanding contributions to both the Grange and the greater Granby community. Known both for his artistic talent and his deep dedication to service, Ellis has generously supported countless community events, beautification efforts and cultural initiatives. His art has brightened homes, public spaces and hearts throughout the area, but it is his spirit of giving and involvement that truly set him apart.

“Craig represents everything this award stands for—generosity, creativity, and a sincere commitment to making Granby a better place for all,” said Judy Doyle, Granby Grange President, during the award presentation.

The award ceremony took place at noon, in front of the crowd gathered for the fair. Ellis was presented with a formal certificate, an engraved paperweight and a gift certificate in recognition of his exceptional service. The applause from the audience was enthusiastic and heartfelt, a reflection of the high esteem in which Ellis is held by neighbors, friends, and fellow community members.
