Alyssa Klebart and Avery Pradhan of Girl Scouts troop 60269 earned their bronze award for making a very special addition to Salmon Brook Park. Both girls had previously earned their first aid badges. Alyssa even took a CPR course.

Inspired by recent first aid badges and the little free libraries, the girls came up with the idea for a boo-boo box. Alyssa and Avery drafted a proposal for the Granby Parks and Rec Department and quickly started bringing their idea to life.

The box, installed at the big playground, is stocked with band aids, gauze, single use icepacks and tissues. The girls interviewed the Kelly Lane school nurse to learn more about playground injuries in order to stock the boo-boo box accordingly. Alyssa and Avery worked with a builder to design and construct the box. This very useful addition to the park is easy to locate due to the girls’ thoughtful design and the paint job completed by them.

WFSB even got wind of this creative and practical addition to our town park and interviewed the girls. The girls hope that their boo-boo box will help kids should they find themselves with a boo-boo while at the park.
