Women’s Breakfast

On Wednesday, Nov. 1, the Granby Women’s Breakfast Group will feature Conservationist Ginny Apple, whose topic will be The Landscape and the Impact on Wildlife. Apple was one of the first full-time women sportswriters in the country. Through the years she has hiked, climbed, kayaked, skied and poked her way through the outdoors, developing a passion for all things natural. Apple volunteers on numerous wildlife projects, and gives talks on a variety of mammals and birds.

A tasty breakfast will be served at 8:30 a.m. and the program will start at 9 a.m. In order to plan an ample breakfast for everyone, please register on the senior center website or call 860-844-5352. Cost is $5.

Men’s Breakfast

The Friday, Nov. 3, Granby Men’s Breakfast at the Senior Center is a week earlier than normal due to Veteran’s Day. Veterans will not be charged for this breakfast. The Granby Grunts Robotics team will be the guest speakers and will perform their annual live demonstration, certain to be entertaining as well as fascinating. To attend, please register as soon as possible by calling 860-844-5352. Early registration helps the cook team plan for enough food. Arrive 8–8:20 a.m., check-in, pay the $5 fee. Breakfast at 8:30 a.m., served at your table. Program to follow breakfast.

Camera Club

The Granby Camera Club will meet on Monday, Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. at the Granby Senior Center. The guest will be Jonathon Jones of j81 studio, Noble Cooley in Granville. Jones launched j81 studios after nearly two decades of hard work in design and advertising. His work with ad agencies and marketing departments gives him a deep understanding of how photography shapes killer advertising campaigns; he’s got the magic touch to frame images that GRAB attention. Jones’ creativity brings products and brands to life, oozing confidence and building trust with the folks who matter most—the audience. His work is to enhance the visual appeal of products, people, and businesses.

Civic Club

The Granby Civic Club will meet on Thursday, Nov. 16 at 1 p.m. at the Senior Center. The speaker will be our friend and member Karen Gill, who will share slides of her trip last year to Rome, the Holy Land and Greece. Refreshments will be provided. Guests and visitors always welcome.

Support 4-H Robotics

Please support the Granby G-4s 4-H Robotics fundraising. Bring your redeemable bottles and cans to Granby Congregational Church, UCC South Campus, 242 Salmon Brook St. on Saturday, Dec. 9, 9 a.m.–2 p.m.

Coffee House

A Coffee House will be held at Pilgrim Covenant Church, 605 Salmon Brook Street, on Saturday, Nov. 11, 7 p.m. The night will feature the talents of Joanne Desrosiers, Kerrie Stelly, Simon O’Neill, The Pilgrims, Casey Janser and Jeremy Minalga, Teddy Randich, and Elijah Brown.

Admission will be $5, and refreshments will be available for purchase. All proceeds benefit the PCC Youth program. Please call 860-653-3800 or email pccgranby@gmail.com if you have any questions.

This Coffee House is intended to offer entertainment in a relaxing atmosphere as an outreach from Pilgrim Covenant Church to Granby, Southwick and surrounding towns with hopes of lifting spirits and building a greater sense of community.

Puzzle and Game Sale

On Saturday, Nov. 18, 10 a.m.–12 p.m., the Friends of the Granby Public Libraries will have several tables of puzzles and games for sale inside the main library. There will be a great assortment to choose from with most items priced between $1 to $5.

We will gladly accept any donated puzzles and games for the sale. Please drop off items at the main library front desk before Friday, Nov. 17. We also are collecting any holiday books or decorations that we can sell at our holiday sale at the library in December.

Wilhelm Concert

“Fred Wilhelm Comes Home to Granby,” a concert presented by the Salmon Brook Music Series, will be held Saturday, Nov. 11, 7:30 p.m. at the Granby Congregational Church, South Campus, 242 Salmon Brook Street. Visit the Salmon Brook Music Series website to purchase tickets.

SBHS News

The Salmon Brook Historical Society is located at 208 Salmon Brook Street.

Research Library in the Preservation Barn is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to noon or by appointment by calling 860-653-9713. Research fee is $25 per hour.

Museum Store merchandise includes books, maps, mugs, t-shirts, notecards, jigsaw puzzle and many more Granby items. The store, located in the Enders House, is open Thursdays from 9 a.m. to noon. Purchases on Tuesday can be made at the Preservation Barn during Research Library Hours. Items can also be viewed at salmonbrookhistoricalsociety.com

On Sundays, Nov. 5 and 12, 1–2:30 p.m., the Farmington Valley CT Heritage Network will present two lectures titled “Why They Came: Immigration to the Farmington Valley.” On Nov. 5, Avon Historical Society, Farmington Historical Society, Stanley-Whitman House, and Unionville Museum will present their stories at Stanley-Whitman House. On Nov. 12, hear stories from Barkhamsted Historical Society, Canton Historical Society, Salmon Brook Historical Society and Simsbury Historical Society at Simsbury Historical Society.
