April was an exciting month for the Granby Public Schools. Our students and staff continue to make the community proud of our school district.

Granby Memorial High School was one of 77 schools across the state that participated in the Voice4Change initiative. Maeve Dingley and Kylie Coxon submitted proposals outlining how they would spend $20,000 available through the American Rescue Plan Elementary and Secondary Schools Emergency Relief Funds to improve the student experience at GMHS. Read their proposals and the outcome of the competition in article on page 7.

On April 22 I had my first experience attending Gran-Bee, one of the biggest events of the school year put on by the Granby Education Foundation (GEF). Teachers and high school students were involved on teams; administrators Colleen Bava, Kim Calcasola and Heather Tanis judged the event; and, of course, the MC of the evening, Jim Whitten, third grade teacher at Wells Road Intermediate School. This event is the perfect opportunity for Granby Public Schools to give back to the Granby Education Foundation for its hard work and dedication to the school system and Granby students. The GEF has awarded numerous grants over the years and, this school year, the GEF awarded a $100,000 grant for a news studio at the high school. Construction will begin this summer and the studio will be in place for students in September. Thank you GEF!

I urge you to view our district’s website (granbyschools.org), which is a wonderful way for you to discover what is happening in our schools. See the box on the next page for the many exciting May happenings that may be of interest to the community at large.
