What’s your favorite thing about living in Granby? If you said, “the rural feel,” “the access to nature,” or “the farms and open space,” then we hope you will consider joining the Granby Land Trust (GLT). A family membership starts at just $30 a year and provides you with invitations to things like moonlight hikes, guest speakers on nature and the environment, the Opening Night of our annual Art Show, our annual meeting/celebration, and other special events. We’ll also sign you up for our quarterly e-newsletter, and we’ll send you a GLT euro decal, which you can affix to your car, laptop, water bottle or any other place you want to show your support for local land preservation. More importantly, it provides us with the support we need to maintain the properties we own and to strategically acquire new properties to help protect our natural resources, preserve wildlife habitat, conserve farmland, and preserve our rural landscape.

Founded in 1972, the GLT is responsible for the preservation of nearly 3,000 acres of land in town, as well as the maintenance of trails on a number of those properties. These include: the 210-acre Dismal Brook Wildlife Preserve on Loomis Street, the 200-acre Mary Edwards Mountain Property on Mountain Road, the 33-acre Western Barndoor Hill Preserve on Barndoor Hills Road, the 150-acre Seth and Lucy Holcombe Preserve on Silver Street, the 115-acre Godard Preserve on Donahue Road, the 300+-acre Katan-Ensor and Old Messenger Road Preserves on Strong Road, the majestic Dewey-Granby Oak on Day Street.
