The last Gran-Bee was in 2019. Submitted photo

Hive you been hankering for a night out with friends? Looking to show off your queen bee costume skills? Does trivia sweeten the honey jar? The 17th (not quite) Annual Gran-Bee flies into view on Friday, April 22, at 6:30 p.m. in the GMHS Auditorium. With famed Granby teacher James Witten as the emcee, this free community event is a great family evening to cheer on teams from civic organizations and our schools, and busy bees who just love trivia!

Registration for teams is open until April 15. All teams have three worker bees competing to win the coveted Grand Bee Award and the Yellow Jacket Crown for best costume. Our Award winners each receive a 6-month membership to the FV YMCA and Crown winners get to do their best Winnie-the-Pooh imitation with jars of local honey! All participants receive a fun goodie bag complete with a Lost Acres cookie. Gather your swarm to compete and register at granbyeducationfoundation.org/register

Our audience doesn’t need to walk away empty handed. Our silent auction will feature themed baskets and a week of summer camp at the FV YMCA. All proceeds from the auction and our sponsors will directly benefit our community and schools.

As the major fundraiser for the Granby Education Foundation, the Gran-Bee rewards knowledge and creativity with prizes for trivia mastery and for creative costumes. But we couldn’t pollinate this event without our sponsors, many of which return year after year. The Farmington Valley YMCA and Fredo Landscaping are clearly the bees’ knees as $1000 Swarm Sponsors. We have the support of many Honey Bee Sponsors at the $500 level: Granby Racial Reconciliation; Hayes-Huling and Carmon Funeral Home; Lost Acres Orchard; MeadowBrook of Granby; Northwest Community Bank; Tim’s Automotive; West Side Oil; Windsor Federal Bank; and Zen Restaurant Group. Our Honeycomb Sponsor ($250), Avon Plumbing, rounds out our sweet local businesses. To learn more about sponsorship, visit https://www.granbyeducationfoundation.org/sponsor.

Bee sure to mark your calendar for Friday, April 22, and buzz by the Bee for laughter, trivia, and community.
