Community Conversation will be held February 24

The Granby Public Schools continues to be one of the best school systems in the State of Connecticut thanks to a supportive community, outstanding students and a committed staff. I have never been involved in a school system that is so committed to doing what is right for schools. When schools, families and the community come together in the best of children, student development and success will thrive. Since my arrival to the Granby Community two years ago, it has been very clear to me that there is shared responsibility in supporting our schools through meaningful partnerships that are essential for assisting students to achieve their maximum potential. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the entire community for the support you have provided our staff and students this school year. We will always continue to provide the best possible education for our students that is grounded in the Granby Public Schools Moving Forward Together 2021-25 Strategic Plan.

The months of December and January were very exciting as we welcomed the community into the Granby Memorial High School auditorium for both high school and middle school band and choral concerts. We are extremely proud of our students and staff for continuing their musical talents and their creativity during the pandemic. The concerts were exhilarating and were well received by all in attendance.

The arts in the Granby Public Schools continue to thrive during the pandemic and public performances allow our students to showcase their wonderful talents. I encourage the community to attend our many artistic events in the next months that will offer you the opportunity to see our students and staff in action.

I am excited to inform you that Granby Memorial High School is one of a few Connecticut High Schools honored by the CIAC with a Michaels Achievement Cup Class Act Sportsmanship Award for the 2020-21 academic year. The Michaels Cup Committee recognized GMHS for exemplary sportsmanship and the high school was formally recognized during the CIAC’s virtual Sportsmanship Conference on Jan. 28. The Michaels Cup was created in the early 1980s as the brainchild of Roy Michaels, the owner of Michaels Jewelry, in an effort to recognize outstanding athletic programs. This is a wonderful recognition for our school district.

At that time, the projected request was 4.26 percent over current operating costs. On March 2, at 7 p.m., the Administrative Budget will be presented to the Granby Board of Education in the Town Hall Meeting Room and via Zoom.

A Superintendent Community Conversation will be held on Thursday, Feb. 24, from 5 to 6 p.m. via Zoom. Please contact Linda Powell at powelll@granbyschools.org to receive a link for this meeting. This is a time where the community and parents/guardians can ask questions about the district.
