Kathy Norris, president of Citizens for a Better Granby (CBG), announced the election of Jen Bell to its board. CBG is the nonprofit volunteer organization that publishes the community newspaper, The Granby Drummer, now in its 51st year of operation. The Drummer is an independent platform to encourage participation in the civic, social, economic and cultural life of Granby. It is distributed free to residents and boxholders in Granby, North Granby and West Granby and is supported by advertisements from local businesses.

Bell’s interest in journalism and print media dates back to her high school days in northern New Jersey where she worked on the school newspaper and considered a career in journalism. After graduating college, she worked in the sales department of the Hartford Business Journal for three years before joining a marketing company based in West Hartford. She celebrated 20 years with Ryan Marketing last October.

Bell is married and has two teenagers who are enrolled in the Granby Public School system. “I have lived in Granby for 25 years and love our town, our sense of community and the abundance of opportunities that surrounds us,” she said; “I look forward to continuing the Drummer’s tradition of reporting excellence for our residents.” Bell has actively volunteered with the Drummer for two years.

In addition to print publishing of the Drummer, CBG publishes an electronic version of each issue. The organization also awards a scholarship each year to a high school senior and supports various community programs including Safe Grad Night, Granby Gran-Bee and Celebrate Granby.
