Joanna Jerin

On Jan. 26, Joanna Jerin, loving wife, mom, friend, and Mimi left this life at the age of 74. Joanna was born on Nov. 4, 1946, to Lawrence and Jennie (Comparone) Schermerhorn in Bristol. Joanna worked primarily as an administrator in various medical practices for nearly 20 years before accepting a role in the Granby public school system, where her welcoming smile and humor became a fixture to students and teachers alike.

Joanna spent her free time working in her gardens, on countless home renovations with her husband of over 40 years, William Jerin, Jr., and on raising her sons David Corey of Torrington, and Christopher Jerin of Granby, to whom she read every night, spent hours on school projects, and cheered for at every sporting event. She also leaves a beloved daughter-in-law, Kerry Jerin, with whom she formed an everlasting bond, and a treasured granddaughter, Nora Jerin, who brought a shining light into her life when it was most necessary. She was predeceased by her younger sister, Laurene (Schermerhorn) Nuzzo.

Joanna always gave to others exactly what they most needed, be that a smile, a laugh, a hug, or a shared tear—often all at once. She leaves a legacy of empathy, kindness and emotional connection that will continue in the hearts of her family and friends. Joanna was a lifelong lover of animals. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made either in her or her beloved dog Cooper’s name to the local animal rescue organization of your choosing.
