Drugs, Tobacco, Gambling, Alcohol, Shopping, Hoarding—ADDICTION

The Town of Granby Youth Service Bureau is now offering two SMART Recovery programs.

The Family and Friends support group will meet on Mondays from 6 to 7:30 p.m. This support group for family and friends of a loved one with addictive behavior has two goals: first, to provide self-management and life skills tools to people struggling with the challenges of living with and caring about a person with an addiction (SMART Recovery, 2020). And second, to support friends and family in increasing the interactions with their loved one that avoid enabling and maximize the possibility that the loved one will choose recovery for their addiction.

The second group is the Youth and Teens recovery support program. This evidence-based group is for young people with an addictive behavior that is causing them problems. It focuses on the SMART four-point recovery system.

1. Building and Maintaining motivations

2. Coping with Urges

3. Managing your Thoughts, Feelings and Behaviors

4. Living a Balanced Lifestyle

Both programs are free, confidential support groups. A onetime HIPPA-compliant registration is required.

The meetings will be offered in person, face masks required, at 15 C North Granby Road, Granby. If small group gatherings of two to 10 people are a health concern, you may choose to join the meeting via a Doxy.me telehealth link.

Call AnneMarie Cox at 860-844-5355 for more information or to register for either of these groups.
