No used book sale this year but you can still help

If you haven’t heard, the annual Friends of Granby Public Library (FOGPL) used book sale, usually held at Holcomb Farm in September, has been canceled. The decision to cancel was made well ahead of time due to the months of necessary pre-planning including collecting and sorting all of the items for the sale. The good news is the schedule has already been set to hold a sale next year in September.

The annual book sale has always played a major part in the fundraising for FOGPL to help support a wide variety of programs, museum passes, magazine subscriptions and supporting materials for the library. Last year the Friends raised $13,100 at its annual used book sale. Without the sale, other fundraising efforts will have to be made to continue to provide the support mentioned above.

One significant way to be of help would be to become a member of the Friends group. The membership campaign for 2020-2021 began on March 1, about 10 days before the pandemic caused shutdown of schools, businesses and even the library. As a result, we are lagging in our memberships for this year, having received only about 10 since then. There are many levels of membership, and forms are available at the library on the book sale table by the entry or at granby-ct.gov

If you wish, donations are always welcome. Make checks payable to FOGPL and either bring them or mail them to the library.

Items are available for sale at Granby Public Library on the FOGPL Used Book Sale table and new book carts.

Plans are also being discussed to hold an online local auction to help raise funds so think of items that you may want to donate to help in this effort.

You can also use Amazon to support the Friends of Granby Public Library when shopping through Amazon Smile. You can easily set-up your account by going to smile.amazon.com on your device or mobile phone. Sign in, and at the top navigation select the option to search and select your charity. Make sure to select “Friends of Granby Public Library, Inc Granby, CT.” For every order that you place on the smile.Amazon site, a portion is donated to the library, at no extra cost to you.
