McLean Meals on Wheels during the pandemic

The McLean Meals on Wheels program has continued to accept new clients during the pandemic and has been increasing weekday deliveries in all the towns served. Meals on Wheels delivers a hot and cold meal daily if desired. The cost of the meal is on a sliding scale. The need during the pandemic has been greater since visiting was discouraged and arrangements made in the past with family and neighbors were no longer practical. Also, many elderly and medically compromised people were discouraged from going to stores to get groceries. Grocery deliveries were available but difficult to get at times.

The Director of the Meals on Wheels program recently received this email:

“First, I want to thank you and all of your team for providing prompt and safe delivery of meals to my mom for the last several weeks during the COVID crisis. The volunteers have been exceptional and have left each delivery in the cooler on the front porch. The quality and variety of food is amazing! The meals were a god-send since we’ve had our hands full while my dad has been quite ill and hospitalized (fortunately, he is COVID-free). Consistently, each meal was nutritious and ample! We so appreciate that my mom can count on this wonderful service.

Again, thanks for all you do and the service you provide our community.”

There were seven Granby residents who received Meals on Wheels during the period March 1– June 1, 2019, for a total of 301 meal deliveries. For the same period in 2020, there were 13 Granby residents who received 525 meal deliveries. The Meals on Wheels program is supported in part by the Granby Community Fund.
