Granby Public Library System
As many of you know, the Granby Public Library is closed to the public until further notice. Some library staff members are available to answer phone calls and emails with requests for information, assistance with online resources, registering for a free library card or help with technology. Call 860-844-5275 or email GranbyLibrary@granby-ct.gov. Staff members will respond to calls and emails Monday through Thursday: 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. and Friday: 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Patrons are encouraged to use the library’s digital services, such as eBooks, eAudiobooks and eMagazines, anytime by using the library apps or by visiting granby-ct.gov/library. New titles are being added to the digital collections weekly, so check back often.
There will be no late fees or fines charged while the library is closed. If you receive any email notices about items you have at home, you can disregard them until the library reopens. Book drops are open at both locations. If you have materials currently on hold, they will remain on the hold shelf until they can be checked out to you. The library will automatically renew any cards that expire between now and when the library reopens. To apply for a temporary library card please visit the library website. All digital resources will be accessible with a temporary card and are available to patrons via the website 24/7.
For up-to-date library information, including upcoming virtual programs and re-opening information, please visit granby-ct.gov/library, follow The Granby Public Library System on Facebook, and sign up for the eNewsletter.
Register for any virtual program on the website, and receive a confirming email with the appropriate information needed to access the webinar. More free library programs may be added to the library calendar at any time.
Online Library Resources
As citizens are being encouraged to stay home and practice social distancing, now is a good time to remind patrons about some of the many online library resources available to them. All of the following are accessible from the library website or via a free App (available in your App Store). For assistance accessing them, please call the library.
Overdrive/Libby and RBdigital: Two different eBook, eAudio book, and eMagazine collections for all ages that are available to Granby library patrons. Bestsellers, old favorites, and the most recent issues of dozens of popular magazines are available to borrow. Each can be accessed from the library website or by downloading a (free) App. Between the two, there are well over 30,000 titles for you (or your children) to use—just enter your Granby library card, download, and enjoy.
Consumer Reports Online: Research the best products to buy, explore safety ratings, and learn about recalls with this online resource. Everything in the paper magazine and more. Note: The site will ask for a “Patron ID”—enter your library card number.
Universal Class: Unlimited access to over 500 courses in over 30 subject areas (everything from accounting to yoga). Classes are taught through videos, assignments, quizzes, tests, and the opportunity to use social media to further engage with other learners. Each library card holder can enroll in up to five courses at a time. Many courses offer continuing education units. Once you create an account using your library card, you must confirm your email address before you can register for classes.
Transparent Language: Learn a new language without having to leave your living room. Register on the library website and then log in to learn everything from Spanish to Japanese to Zulu.
