Wells students donate pajamas to the Pajama Program

Wells students donate pajamas

By Kierstan Pestana

The students at Wells Road Intermediate School completed a collection of pajamas for area children that ended with a Pajama Day on Dec. 12. This is the fifth annual drive to support The Pajama Program, a non-profit organization that provides new, warm pajamas and books to children in need, many who are waiting and hoping to be adopted.

In the first four years, the school collected 741 pairs of pajamas. This year, 85 students and many staff members brought in another 169 pairs of pajamas, bringing the total donation to 910 pairs over five years. The first 75 students who brought in pajamas were treated to a movie and popcorn in the school’s media center during a lunch/recess block. The entire school celebrated with the Pajama Day.

The students in my class organized, counted, and boxed up 12 cartons of pajamas that were donated to the Division of Children and Families in Manchester on Dec. 19 for children to have as the cold winter danger season approaches.
