Summer Employment: The Granby Recreation Department is seeking concession staff for spring and summer, and a limited number of Lifeguards, Day Camp Counselors, and Concession Stand Workers for seasonal employment at Salmon Brook Park. Get the application at the web site; application deadline is April 10.

Party/Event Planning
The Lodge at Salmon Brook Park is a beautiful facility with a kitchen, patio, multi-purpose function room featuring a gas fireplace and central A/C, accommodating up to 99 people. Make an appointment today for a tour then reserve for your next party or social event.

Six Flags Tickets
The Granby Recreation Department has discounted Day Passes available for only $38 each and season passes for $56.99 each. Purchase at the Rec Office Monday through Friday, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., accepting cash, checks with valid ID and credit card.

April Vacation Multi-Sport Camp
Want your children to have fun over April break? Register to have them spend mornings at Kelly Lane School playing basketball, soccer, floor hockey, and baseball (among other games) in a cooperative atmosphere that stresses fun over competition. Campers will be grouped by age and ability. They should bring a healthy snack/water bottle and wear T-shirt/shorts/sweats/socks (i.e., appropriate clothing) and sneakers (no boots or hard-soled shoes). The program is supervised by a local Physical Education Teacher. Bring a healthy lunch if staying the full day. Grades K–6, April 13 to 17. Full day is 8:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m., $200. Half day is 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., $150.

April Vacation Tennis Lessons
Our youth tennis lessons are geared to the beginner and intermediate youth player. Instructed by Kevin Imby, GMHS tennis team coach. Participants should bring an appropriately sized racquet, lots of water, towel and sneakers. Lessons are held Mondays through Thursday; Fridays will be used to make-up lessons cancelled due to bad weather. Held at SBP tennis courts. April 13 – 16, $30 pp. Pee Wee (ages 3–6) at 11 – 11:55 a.m. Beginner (ages 6–9) at 12 – 12:55 p.m., Intermediate (ages 9–16) at 1 – 1:55 p.m.

Youth Enrichment
Engineering FUNdamentals using LEGOs, grades 3–6: Tuesday, April 21 – June 9, 3:30 – 5 p.m. at Kearns School. Power up engineering skills with Play-Well TEKnologies and LEGOs. Apply real-world concepts in physics, engineering and architecture through projects such as arch bridges, skyscrapers, motorized cars and the Battletrack. An experienced instructor will challenge new and returning students to engineer at the next level. $154pp.

American Red Cross Classes
Tuesday, May 26, is a school holiday, and Granby Recreation is offering two classes sponsored by the American Red Cross.

Babysitting: youth ages 11–15 will receive the information and skills necessary to provide safe and responsible care for children in the absence of parents or guardians. 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the SBP Park House. $100pp.

When I’m In Charge: For boys and girls age 8 and older, who are ever home alone. The course will cover safety concerns such as arriving home, phone and Internet safety, fire and gun safety. 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Holcomb Farm Workshop. $70pp.

For Adults

Yoga for All: Stretch, strengthen and restore in this mixed level yoga class. Begins with a gentle warm-up, build to an invigorating flow and end with a deep stretch and peaceful relaxation. Gain flexibility, balance and strength. Instructor, Mary Ellen Mullins. Ages 18 to adult. Feb. 24 – March 31, 8:30 – 9:30 a.m. at Holcomb Farm Workshop. $65pp.

Make Your Own Baby Food
Parents and caregivers will learn how easy, affordable, and healthy it really is to make baby food at home. This course provides information on the tools and supplies you need (and don’t need), as well as creative ideas and recipes for feeding little ones. Also included is a demo of some of the techniques and a taste-test; handouts will be provided. For age 18 and up. May 12, 6:30 – 8 p.m. at Holcomb Farm. $25pp.

Clear the Clutter
This six-week program provides participants with tools, resources, and realistic weekly goals for taking control of cluttered spaces at home, office, etc. Each week you will leave motivated and supported to tackle your goal with an over-arching program goal of reducing stress levels associated with a cluttered space. There will be handouts and worksheets. For age 18 and up. May 7 – June 4, 6:30 – 8 p.m. at Holcomb Farm. $60pp.

Organize It
Do you have piles of papers sitting around? Do you feel stresses by all the paperwork getting in your way? This workshop will provide you with methods and guidelines to organize your paperwork and reduce the associated stress. Handouts will be provided. For age 18 and up. April 30, 6:30 – 8 p.m. at Holcomb Farm. $25pp.

Bus Trip
NYC On Your Own: Enjoy the Big Apple, see Chinatown, Little Italy, Central Park, a museum, the zoo, a Broadway show or shop. The usual drop off points are The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Plaza Hotel, and Rockefeller Center. Pickup for return is 7 p.m. in front of Stage Deli, Broadway and 53rd Street. Saturdays, April 18, June 6, Oct. 3 and Dec. 5. $40pp.

Boston Red Sox vs. Seattle Mariners: Saturday, Aug. 15 at Fenway Park. We will be seated in right field box #1 for this game (Field Level Seats, rows A-G, next to Visitor’s Bullpen). Bus will leave Granby Town Hall at about 3 p.m. for the 7:10 p.m. game start. Tickets can only be reserved with full payment. $125pp.

Lions, Tigers and Bears, Oh My! Monday, Aug. 24, bring the family on an exciting trip to the world famous Bronx Zoo. Summer Camp Programs

Salmon Brook Park Day Camp
This traditional day camp for grades 1 thru 5 fills each day with active games, special events, sports, arts and crafts, teamwork, group interaction and the wonders of nature. SBP has a playground, soccer fields, baseball fields, outdoor basketball hoops, picnic pavilions, and tennis courts. Your child will have the opportunity to swim in the pond, go on exciting field trips, and see spectacular entertainers. All children are grouped by age/grade and all activities are age-appropriate. Camp is scheduled in one-week sessions to better meet you and your child’s needs. Need to get to work early or extend your child’s time at the camp? Check out our Extended Day Program run by our Camp Director. Save $10 a week by registering your child by Friday, May 22. The discount will show up during checkout. Note: All campers must purchase an individual ($30) or family ($70) SBP membership in order to register for camp. The SBP membership price includes the camp discount and swimming privileges at the pond all summer long. Weekly sessions start June 22 and continue thru Aug. 21. 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. $160 pp.

Mission: Adventure, a Camp for Teens and Tweens
The area’s most popular day camp for grades 6 thru 9. Mission: Adventure will have campers kayaking down the Farmington River, playing paintball with their friends in the setting of a western boomtown, playing underwater Frisbee while wearing a scuba tank on their back and so much more! Each two-week session of camp has at least 6 off site field trips to a variety of locations. On days where campers will be on site all day they will participate in scavenger hunts, team building activities, sports, swimming and more. Note: All campers must purchase an individual ($30) or family $70) SBP membership in order to register for camp. Families will receive a detailed packet of camp/trip information in the mail 1–2 weeks before camp begins; trip waivers, a list of what to bring, etc. will be included. 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., $419pp. Session 1: June 22 – July 3. Session 2: July 6 – 17. Session 3: July 20 – 31. Session 4: Aug. 3 – 14.

Band Camp
This program consists of specialized music instruction providing students in grades 5–12 with a positive, encouraging musical experience when they can work in a more relaxed environment, playing in a band setting. Band Designed for students with at least one year of experience on their instrument; not for beginners. Week 1: July 6 – 10. Week 1: July 13 – 17. Week 3: July 20 – 24. Held at GMMS, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Students will perform an informal concert on the Friday of each week. The camp fee is $80 for each week, plus a band camp materials fee of $10 for the summer (includes tee shirt). Please contact Sarah Warner (warners@granby.k12.ct.us) with any questions.

Bears Boys Basketball Camp
Head coach Wally Hansen led his team to the 2013 Class S State Championship. Now he and his staff of varsity basketball players are ready to help boys in grades 1 – 8 learn what it takes to be successful on the court. This camp will concentrate on fundamentals and individual and team development as well as foster self-confidence in a fun atmosphere. Conditioning, drills, stations, team and individual competitions will stress the fundamentals of ball handling, shooting, defense and rebounding. Awards ceremony at last session will recognize contest and championship winners. All campers will receive a t-shirt. July 6 – 10 at GMHS. Grades 1–4 at 8 – 11 a.m. Grades 5–8 at 11:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. $115pp.

Bear Girls Basketball Camp
GMHS’s girls basketball coach Dean Godin and his staff lead this popular instructional camp for girls in grades 1 – 9, concentrating on fundamentals and individual and team development. Curriculum includes conditioning, drills, stations, plus team and individual competitions that will help players improve their ball handling, shooting, defense and rebounding. Participants should wear appropriate gym clothes and sneakers and bring a ball and a water bottle. All campers will receive a camp t-shirt. Held June 22 – 26 at GMHS, 8:30 – 11:30 a.m. $115pp.
