Volunteer Cat Lovers Needed
Mary’s Kitty Korner, a no-kill cat shelter in Granby, is looking for volunteers to help care for its kitties until they find their “fur-ever” homes. Camera Club
The Granby Camera Club will meet on Monday, Feb. 6, at the Granby Senior Center at 7 p.m. The guest speaker for the evening will be Joe Gaylor who specializes in street photography. Women’s Breakfast
On Wednesday, Feb. 1, at 8:30 a.m. in the Granby Senior Center, a representative from The Faces of Homelessness speakers bureau will address the Granby Women’s Breakfast group about how she became homeless at one point in her life. The bureau is a public education program that promotes advocacy, understanding and service to the homeless. Call Corinne Dickerson at 860-653-9891 to reserve your spot. Cost is $3.
Pasta Dinner and Dessert Auction
Join friends at First Church for the annual free pasta dinner and dessert auction. Saturday, March 11, 6 – 8 p.m. in Cook Hall. Desserts range from single-serving to extraordinary. This fundraiser will support area youth for a summer work trip to Buffalo for Habitat for Humanity. Save the date and be a part of this fun evening.
Local Book Signing
There will be a celebration of the publication of Laura Mazza-Dixon’s poetry book, Forged by Joy, with editor and publisher of Antrim House Books, Rennie McQuilkin, who also is Connecticut Poet Laureate, on Saturday, Feb. 11, at 4 p.m. It will be held at Fellowship Hall, South Church, 242 Salmon Brook St. Admission is free, the facility is wheelchair accessible. Drop into the library this cold winter and enjoy a hot cup of coffee, tea or cocoa and a warm welcome while browsing the new DVDs, best sellers, magazines and recorded books. There are always seasonal and new books in the children’s room and something to create or color for younger patrons.
Pancake Breakfast
Granby 4-H will hold its annual pancake breakfast Saturday, March 25, 7:30–10:30 a.m. at South Congregational Church, 242 Salmon Brook St. Plain, blueberry and chocolate chip pancakes, ham, sausage, fruit and juice will be served. The profits support educational programs and community service projects for Granby 4-H. Prices are $8 for adults, $6 for seniors and children 3-12, and under 3 is free. Info session for Kearns Study Committee is Feb. 21
The Kearns School Study Committee will hold a second public information session on Tuesday, Feb. 21 at 7 p.m. at the senior center.  The committee will present the recent survey results and will continue to accept suggestions from the public for the building’s use.
