High Meadow Day Camp Carnival benefits Granby Food Bank

By Andrea Boyle

Archery, swimming, team sports, arts and crafts, challenge courses, and games aren’t the only activities High Meadow Day Camp participants enjoy. Every summer, campers look forward to the annual Penny Carnival, which features an abundance of games, prizes, and fun.

Proceeds from the annual event are generously donated to a local, charitable organization. This year, the Granby Food Bank Program is the recipient. Camp Director Chuck Washer and camp counselors and counselors-in-training presented the $246.05 donation to Farmington Valley VNA Executive Assistant Andrea Boyle on August 12.

The volunteer-run Granby Food Bank Program, housed in the Farmington Valley VNA’s Granby office on Salmon Brook Street, offers essential nutrition to qualified Granby and Hartland residents in need of assistance. Presently, 90 individuals and families benefit from the community’s generous donations of non-perishable food items, personal care products, household cleaning items, and pet care products to supplement their weekly grocery needs. Monetary donations are utilized to replenish supplies and keep the shelves stocked with essential items including canned fruit and vegetables, pasta and sauce, peanut butter, soup, canned meat and pasta products, and meal starters.

On behalf of current Granby Food Bank Program participants, the Farmington Valley VNA extends their gratitude to everyone at High Meadow Day Camp for their commitment to their community.
