Granby students joined over 200 public school board members, superintendents and students from Connecticut Public Schools to meet with legislators during the annual Connecticut Association of Boards of Education (CABE) “A Day on the Hill” event to voice their opinions about the importance of investing in public school education.
“Public school systems throughout Connecticut are facing very serious consequences if the Governor’s proposed budget passes as is,” stated Robert Rader, executive director of CABE. “Our A Day on the Hill event is one of many efforts to work with the Governor and other elected officials to create practical, beneficial solutions for public schools amid a difficult economic time.”

The day began with a briefing of issues at The Bushnell’s Autorino Great Hall, including the governor’s proposed budget and its effect on local school districts, with CABE and the legislative leadership.
“It was invigorating to see the overwhelming support for public school education from our students, administrators, school officials, and legislators,” said Patrice McCarthy, deputy director and general counsel of CABE. “It is important to continue working alongside lawmakers to ensure all students throughout Connecticut have access to a high quality public education.”
Students, principals, superintendents, school board members and other attendees “marched to the Hill” to visit one-on-one with their legislators at the State Legislative Office Building to discuss the problems facing public school education budgets and how to work together to create a practical solution without damaging education for children in Connecticut.
