Cossitt Library

Are you enjoying the Elementary Nutmeg Book Nominees? Would you like to talk about them? Join us on Saturday, March 21 at 3 p.m. We will read The Day the Crayons Quit and do a craft. 

American Ancestors is online at Cossitt. An award winning website with a database similar to Ancestry, its focus is on New England and New York records; also at Cossitt is American Ancestors magazine, a quarterly with in-depth articles on genealogy.

The Possum Writer Club will meet the first and third Tuesdays of the month at 6 p.m. Engage in writing exercises and friendly critiques of each other’s works.

Family Story Hour will meet Tuesday, March 24 at 6:30 p.m. All are welcome; Family Story Hour meets the last Tuesday of each month.

Granby Public Library

Something About The Author: Monday, March 2 at 1:30 p.m. to discuss the works of Wallace Stevens. Copies of works by the author are available for borrowing.

Finance Series: The series concludes with Nancy Fellinger, of Wellspring Financial Advisory Partners, Simsbury, who will address the topic, What Every Woman Needs to Know, about the Financial Advice Business, on Sunday, March 8, 2 p.m. (Snow date: March 22)

Foodie Film Series: Thursdays, March 5, 12, 19, 26, ongoing between 5 and 7 p.m. Drop by the Library to view segments from America’s Test Kitchen, as seen on PBS, watch chefs prepare a variety of dishes, share kitchen tips and review new kitchen equipment, as well as take home complimentary recipes from Christopher Kimball and the editors of Cook’s Illustrated. The first 12 attendees receive a fresh “ingredient” from the featured presentation. This is a drop-in series; no registration required.

Gardening Series: Our favorite gardener, Sarah Bailey of the UConn Agricultural Center, returns with Four Seasons of Gardening on Sunday, March 15, 2 p.m., followed by Sustainable Gardening on Sunday, March 29, 2 p.m. 

Around the World Book Group: This new book discussion group starts on Monday, March 16 at 6:30 p.m. This group will read and discuss international works by authors from various countries. This month the selected title is When a Crocodile Eats the Sun by Peter Godwin (Zimbabwe). Copies of the book will be available before the group meets. 

Crafter’s Café: Our fav crafter, Paula, returns this month with Lotions & Potions on Thursday, March 26 at 6:30 p.m., to demonstrate DIY natural beauty recipes containing beneficial ingredients sure to heal your winter-battered skin. Teens are always welcome; light refreshments provided.

Sci-Fi Book Discussion: Wednesday, March 25, 7 p.m., the group will discuss Mistborn, by Brian Sanderson. Copies of the book will be available to borrow beforehand.

Health Series: The series continues with Accupressure Face Lift (back by popular demand) with Gail Altschwager on Wednesday, March 25, 6:30 p.m.

Wee Ones: Books and Babies

Mondays, March 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30. Also Thursdays, March 5, 12, 19 and 26. 10:30 – 11 a.m. An opportunity for babies aged 0–18 months and a caregiver to sing, rock, clap and bounce to nursery rhymes and board books. Sheri Litchfield from the Granby Early Childhood Council leads this popular program. No registration required; drop-ins welcome.

Wee Ones: Toddler Tales

Mondays, March 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30. Also Thursdays, March 5, 12, 19 and 26. 11 – 11:30 a.m. Toddlers aged 18–36 months and a caregiver are invited to enjoy stories, songs and silly fun with Sheri Litchfield from the Granby Early Childhood Council. No registration required.

Preschool Story Time

Tuesdays, March 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31. 10:30 – 11:15 a.m. Children ages 3–5 and a caregiver share stories, songs, finger plays and a craft with Miss Joan. No registration required; drop-ins welcome.

Craft Week

Monday to Sunday, March 2 – 8. Drop in any time during the week and create a craft project to take home. We supply all materials.

We Love Legos!

Tuesdays, March 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31. 4 – 5:30 p.m. We have lots of Legos. Stop by after school and play. Ages 3 and up. No registration necessary.

Zumba!

Saturday, March 21. 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. Come and move to the music. Amy Thompson leads this fun program for ages 7–11. This program fills up fast—advance registration is required as space is limited.
