The Granby Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce the kick-off of its Community Education Series in October. The first seminar in the series will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 20 at the Farmington Valley YMCA from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Attendance is free and the presentation is open to the public.
Jean Keating, Pharm.D. and Beth Galloway, store manager at Granby Pharmacy, will present a program on preventing the misuse and abuse of prescription medications. The topic will be presented as it relates to seniors, adults, young adults/teens and children. They will also provide more information on the new Connecticut laws that allows pharmacists, who have been trained and certified, to prescribe naloxone (brand name, Narcan)—an opioid antagonist that blocks opiate receptors in the nervous system and can prevent death from overdose.
Justine Ginsberg, BSN, RN, and Jennifer Kertanis from the Farmington Valley Health District will present on adult and child immunizations. They will cover which vaccinations are necessary and why; what happens if your child is unvaccinated; state exclusion policies, if there is a case of vaccination preventable disease in that child’s school; a myth-busting session about side effects and community-perceived “dangers” of vaccination with a fun quiz at the end.
