First Church of Granby AppleFest September 19

By Linda Betsch

First Congregational Church of Granby (FCC) will host its fourth annual AppleFest on Saturday, September 19 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the church grounds, located at 219 North Granby Road (Rt. 189). All ages and stages are welcome at this fun-filled community event and will be held rain or shine, using  indoor and outdoor covered spaces.

The event will feature over 30 vendor and craft booths, a tag sale of gently-used, hand-selected items, and FCC’s famous cheese bread. Grilled hot dogs, chili, soups, and an enormous bake sale of apple pies and other baked goods are also a highlight.

“It’s hard to believe this is already the fourth year of the AppleFest. Each year is bigger than the last with more vendors and more traffic. It’s become an anticipated community event like the craft fair of years ago,” said Ginny McDaniel, the senior minister of FCC. Corrine Dickerson, one of the organizers said, “This year we will open the Tag Sale an hour before the rest of the event for early shoppers. Also, the bake sale and lunch items have always sold out. It’s a fun event for everyone.”

The beautiful, newly-designed classrooms will be open for those interested in seeing where the youth of the church spend their time. To see other church activities refer to the website www.firstchurchgranby.org.

There is no admission fee and free parking is available. Contact the church office at 860-653-4537 for any questions or to learn more about volunteer opportunities. If you are a vendor interested in having a booth, contact Linda Smyth at 860-653-5885.
