A very large crowd of Granby residents, high school athletes and members of Granby’s government boards gathered at the high school on May 17 to witness the naming of the track field after Dennis J. Lobo. Lobo was being honored in his 51st year of coaching track and cross country not only for his accomplishments, but also for the impact he has had on so many Granby youth, according to principal Mike Dunn and Superintendent Alan Addley. A number of former students and their parents were on hand for the unveiling of the new sign identifying the field, as well as some coaches from schools that compete with GMHS.

Among the many honors Lobo has attained is being elected to the state Coaches Hall of Fame in 2013. Three times has been a finalist for national Coach of the Year.
In his remarks, Lobo thanked the taxpayers of Granby for being so supportive of the high school athletics program. He noted that the track field is the envy of most of the visiting teams.
