Farmington Valley Chorale starts rehearsals

The Farmington Valley Chorale, a non-auditioned group of 80 to 100 men and women, begins rehearsing for its December presentation of Magnificats by Vivaldi, Mozart and Stanford, on Sunday, Sept. 13, 7 to 9 p.m. at Simsbury United Methodist Church, 799 Hopmeadow St. (Rte. 10), Simsbury. Starting on Sept. 20, all subsequent rehearsals will be held on Sundays at the Farmington Valley Jewish Congregation, 55 Busy Hill Rd (Rte. 167), Simsbury. The group will present Vaughn Williams’ Dona Norbis Pacem in the spring.

Ellen Gilson Voth has been the artistic director of the Farmington Valley Chorale since 2007. Dr. Voth also is the artistic director of Novi Cantori, a professional chamber choir based in Springfield, and remains active as a composer, guest conductor and keyboard artist. She currently serves on the board of the Connecticut Chapter of the American Choral Directors Association and repertoire and standards chair for community choirs.

Granby area residents who sing with the Chorale include Peter Barwick, Donald Dickey, Elaine Lydon, Helen Hogan, Carol Bressor, Kenneth Way, Teri Baber, Judy Burhans, John Flint, Carolyn Flint and Debby Siegel.
