Drummer adds digital marketing for help advertisers

This year, the Drummer has started to make more use of its website and social media outlets to reach a wider readership of the news, features and advertising found on the printed pages of the newspaper. With more and more readers accessing news via smartphones and tablets using RSS feed, the Drummer has created a digital hub to link and share specific articles on online with their friends and family which in turn can increase the exposure of the advertisers appearing in the printed newspaper. So, far the online advertising effort is working well.

The ads are placed at the end of articles and are visible to readers plugged into the RSS feed reading the Drummer Online. Interest in an online ad is measure by the number of clicks recorded. For example in September the online Drummer received 978 clicks, in December this had increased to 1,167 clicks.

“We are aware that many of our readers now rely more on electronic devices to obtain their news and information, “ said Lew Noble, chairperson of Citizens for a Better Granby and publisher of the Granby Drummer. “We want to reach residents of all ages and habits with the news of Granby happenings so we must use all forms of communications. “ The Drummer has designated a person to work with its print advertisers to manage their online ads. Businesses who advertise in the print version of the Drummer will benefit with increased exposure to target audiences while the additional revenue will enable the Drummer to manage the online aspect effectively.
