Discovering New England Stone Walls: Saturday, June 16, 1–2 p.m. How and why did New England acquire thousands of miles of stone walls? Find out from Kevin Gardner, longtime stone wall builder and author of The Granite Kiss, and Stone Building: How to Make New England Style Walls and Other Structures the Old Way. Learn about selecting materials, incorporating design elements and proper restoration techniques. Watch as Gardner builds a miniature stone wall during the talk. Questions are welcome about specific projects in your own backyard. Don’t miss this fascinating talk, demonstration and book signing brought to you by the Granby Land Trust and the Friends of GPL. Granby Library Rocks with Doo-Wop! Tuesday, June 26, 6:30–7:30 p.m. Martocchio Music kicks off a rockin’ summer music series when we delve into the origins of rock & roll. Listen and sing along to your favorite Doo-Wop tunes. All ages are invited to bring a lawn chair or blanket and enjoy live music on the Reading Terrace. Program moves indoors in poor weather. Enjoy Under the Boardwalk, Blue Moon, Great Pretender, Duke of Earl, Up on the Roof, Why Do Fools Fall in Love? and so many more.

Marquis of Granby Junior Ancient Fyfe and Drum Corps: Friday, June 29, 7–8 p.m. Start your Independence Day celebration with pre-revolutionary pageantry on the library’s lawn. Enjoy living history with Granby’s very own fyfe and drum corps. Meet the fifers and drummers and learn more about one of the largest junior corps in the country—their musket drills and music, instruments and uniforms, musters and parades. Bring a lawn chair or blanket, all ages welcome.

Summer Reading Begins June 25: Stop by the library to register, pick up your Reading Log and check out the great programs and events that are planned for the summer.

Kick Off Carnival with Ed Popielarczyk: Wednesday, June 27, 1:30–3:30 p.m. at the Senior Center. Celebrate the start of Summer Reading with carnival games, crafts and other activities. Watch balloon artist Ed Popielarczyk create his amazing balloon animals. Grab a bag of popcorn and have some fun. All ages welcome, no advance registration required.

ZUMBA, ages 5–11: Saturday, June 9, 10 a.m. Move it to music with instructor Amy Thompson. Join us for a fun-filled session. Preregistration is required as space is limited to 12.

Craft Week: Monday – Saturday, June 11–16. Drop in anytime during the week and create a fun project to take home. All materials supplied.

Preschool Story Time: Tuesdays, June 5, 12, 19 and 26, 10:30–11 a.m. Preschoolers with a caregiver share stories, songs, finger plays and a craft with Miss Joan. No registration required.

Wee Ones, birth to 2 years: Thursdays, June 7, 14, 21 and 28, 10:30–11 a.m. Board books, finger plays, songs and gentle movement for babies and toddlers with a caregiver. No registration required.

Family Movie Night: Wednesdays, June 6, 13 and 20, beginning at 6 p.m. (No June 27) Bring the family and enjoy a movie, we’ll supply the popcorn! Call for film titles. Drop in.

Cossitt Library

Writers Group: Tuesday, June 12, 6–7:45 p.m. The Writers Group follows a summer schedule June, July and August; the group will meet on the Upper Level the second Tuesday of the month. The group welcomes adult writers of all genres. In June attendees will continue to take inspiration from Steering the Craft by Ursula LeGuin.

Geology Rocks! Monday, June 25, 6:30–7:30 p.m. Nestled between the Western and Eastern Highlands of Connecticut lies the Central Valley, filled with a rich geologic history over 200 million years in the making. Learn about the Earth processes that formed the varied rocks of the Hartford Basin from UConn Geologist Riley Flanagan-Brown. Discover the best places to hike and enjoy Connecticut’s geologically fascinating landscape. Appropriate for adults, teens and tweens. Registration required; space limited.

Cossitt Craft Days: June 7, 9, 12 and 14 in the Children’s Room. Kids and caregivers are invited to browse for books and movies, then make and take home a simple craft project in five minutes or less. No fee, no registration.

Special Craft Time: Saturday, June 16, 1–3 p.m. in the Children’s Room. Cossitt Library rocks, and so do Dads! Little crafters are welcome to drop in and make a special Father’s Day card. All materials supplied. No fee, no registration, just fun and cookies.
