The pond at the top of the east field hill is flush with winter-melt and filled with noisy peepers.

Holcomb Farm’s trails are always open and welcoming, and spring is a special time. You can visit on your own, any time; the eastern fields are easily accessible from the junction of Simsbury Road and Day Street South, and the views are spectacular.

For an organized event, plan to celebrate CT Trails Day by joining the Friends for a nature walk on Sunday, June 3, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., starting at the Farm campus, 113 Simsbury Road. Rated as moderate, the walk will cover a distance 6.5 miles, and happens rain or shine. This route passes through the wooded western hills of the Holcomb Farm and McLean Game Refuge, and will include a stop at a waterfall and historic farm site foundations. For the hikers out there, this is only one of over 240 events statewide on June 2 and 3.
