Volunteers needed to sort books

The Friends of Granby Public Library (FOGPL) is gearing up for its 36th Annual Used Book Sale on  Sept 21-23 at Holcomb Farm, and your help is needed!

The Friends will be ready to accept your donations of gently used books, free from markings and the smell of mildew or smoke, at Granby Public Library beginning Saturday, June 2. So, as you begin to think about spring cleaning, please box up your used books CDs/DVDs, learning toys, puzzles and games. Donations will be accepted through Aug. 4, providing there is sufficient storage. Space has been filled the past two years by mid-July. Don’t wait too long.

Volunteers are needed to serve in many ways, starting with collecting sturdy boxes (boxes with covers and 10-ream copy paper boxes are a plus).

Book processing begins in June with presorting at the library during the week and final sorting on Monday nights at Holcomb Farm. No experience is necessary, training (and sometimes snacks) are provided by volunteers for this fun activity.

During the summer, some volunteers pick up books at the homes of people unable to bring them to the library.

Final sale preparation in September begins with moving books from sorting space at Holcomb to the big barn, arranging tables and displays; followed by working at the sale and clearing up after.
