Blessing of the Mount at West Granby Methodist Church.

The Granby Horse Council will again sponsor the annual Blessing of the Mounts at the West Granby Methodist Church. The Blessing will take place behind the church at 87 Simsbury Road West Granby, at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 28. Pastor Peter Preiser will officiate. This will be a short ceremony including a “Stirrup Cup.” The Stirrup Cup is a fox hunting tradition meant to wish safety as horses and riders travel the countryside. All equines are invited. Animals may be ridden or led. If your animal is unable to attend, owners may carry their halter. The Blessing will take place rain or shine.

For those who trailer-in, parking is allowed in the field south of the main buildings of Holcomb Farm. Riders will gather in the newly fenced arena. At 12:45 p.m., the group will ride to the church.

If weather permits, Horse Council members will take a one hour trail ride on the Holcomb trails. Please wear high visibility clothing because some of this ride will be on Simsbury Road. To be a part of the trail ride, you must be a Granby Horse Council member. Memberships can be purchased before the ride for $15 per individual and $20 per family. Riders under 18 years old must be accompanied by a parent.

This event is free to the public and a great photo opportunity. For more information about the Granby Horse Council visit, its website at granbyhorsecouncilct.com or follow it on facebook at “Granby (CT) Horse Council” or call Joan Davis at 860-653-6805.
