Two candidates seeking the Democratic nomination for the 62nd House District will appear together on Tuesday, March 6, at 7 p.m. in the Granby Town Hall Meeting Room to address interested voters and answer questions.

Amanda Webster and Valerie Eastwood, both of Granby, have been campaigning throughout the district for months, talking with individual voters, groups and town committees. The forum format will include questions gathered in advance and presented by a panel, as well as questions selected from the audience.

“It’s the first time in recent history that we’ve had a dynamic contest between two articulate and determined Democrats for this seat,” said Jim Lofink, who chairs the Democratic Town Committee. “We’re looking forward to this great opportunity for voters to see and hear the candidates, their qualifications and their positions on issues.”

“The next step after the forum will be our Caucus on March 29, open to all registered Democrats,” Lofink added. “The Caucus chooses the six Granby Delegates to the convention for the 62nd District in May.” The March 29 Caucus will be held at 7 p.m. in the Community Room of the Granby Senior and Youth Services Center.

Granby is the largest town in the four-town 62nd district, which includes Barkhamsted, Hartland and New Hartford.  Voters throughout the district are invited to attend the March 6 forum.

“These are exciting times for local grassroots democracy,” Lofink observed. “These two candidates are proof positive of the values and vigor that our party brings to the American democratic experience.” The program will be broadcast live on GCTV Cox Channel 16 and will be available for viewing online GCTV16.org, starting the day after the event. RSVPs are not necessary but can be sent to GranbyDemocrats@gmail.com.
