FOGPL wants you

The Friends of Granby Public Library (FOGPL) membership year begins April 1.  We are already planning the fall used book sale, which promises to be bigger and better than last year’s record breaking event. This is the perfect time to join the Friends in making it all happen.

“What do FOGPL friends do?” Our mission is to help Granby Public Library serve our town the way we all would like. A big part of this is fundraising to help provide the “want to haves” that don’t quite make the town budget. These include passes to museums programs, and much more.

“What does it mean to be a friend?” It all begins with membership. FOGPL membership dues and contributions are the foundation of our fundraising. However, volunteer time from members, like you, is essential to make our programs work, especially the Annual Used Book Sale, Sept. 21-23 at Holcomb Farm.

Volunteers are needed beginning in June to help sort donated books and more, and to serve on the board and assist with special events. One of our year-round activities is the Used Book Table near the main Library entry with a fresh selection of carefully chosen items (books, DVDs, etc.) each month. In anticipation of warmer weather, the March sale features books on travel and places to visit.

The Friends provide all funding for Granby Public Library programs such as the Wellness series this month, Kids’ Zumba on Saturdays, and Crafter’s Café nights. Being a member of the Friends means you are actively contributing to a mission that supports activities and purchases for the Granby Public Library in the company of fun folks of all ages and stages. Student volunteers have the extra benefit of earning community service hours while having fun.

We know the economic environment is especially challenging now, not only for Granby and the Library, but also for individuals and families. So, your membership is especially appreciated. Please read the membership form included in this month’s Drummer. Then we hope you will complete and mail or drop it off at the Granby Public Library.
