The Granby Artists Association will hold their annual Open Studio Tour Saturday, Oct. 15 and Sunday, Oct. 16 at home studios throughout the Granby area. In addition, Lost Acres Vineyard will again host a group of artists on both days of the tour.
The group is very excited to showcase the work of three new members this year. Barbara Schmitt is a landscape architect and owner of B Designs. She is also a young, creative chain saw artist and a painter. Her sculptures are whimsical and lyrical. Her sculpture of a nude doing yoga recently won first prize in sculpture at the East Granby Library Juried Art Show. Her goal is to create art inspired by nature.

Karen Hudson has been a professional artist for most of her working life. Drawing on her extensive background, Karen paints intuitively, letting the painting reveal itself. While oil paint is her preferred medium, she also works in pastels, watercolor, egg tempera and ink. Her vibrant paintings are filled with color. A recent arrival to Granby from California, she is a welcome addition to the Granby Artists group and the community.
Scott Duncan applies his engineering and manufacturing experience to the craft of wood turning. His lathe turned artwork was featured in a recent article in the Granby Drummer and he has completed several commissions using local materials. Most of his pieces are designed for function. He places strong emphasis on connecting the wood he uses to its provenance. His pieces are usually traceable to a location or a piece of history, such as the Granby Oak, and they all tell a story.
A total of 16 artists will present a wide variety of work including painting, glass art, jewelry, sculpture, pottery, handmade light fixtures, calligraphy and more. The Granby Artists Association is grateful for generous contributions from local individuals and businesses that help fund its annual tour.
