The Mary H. Hausmann Memorial Scholarship, in partnership with the Granby Ambulance Association, annually awards scholarships to high school seniors from East Granby and Granby pursuing a medical profession with primary focus on the nursing and/or emergency medical fields.

Initiated in 2000 with the assistance of the East Granby Ambulance Association, the scholarship is named in honor of Mary Hausmann who was a long-time resident of East Granby, a dedicated nurse and a volunteer EMT. While her primary work was at the Alcohol and Drug Recovery Center (ADRC) in Hartford, she also served as a nurse with the Granby school system and the Visiting Nurses Association in Hartford. Additionally, she was a founding member of the East Granby Ambulance Association in 1976 where she volunteered as an EMT until the early 1990s.

Since 2000, the scholarship has been honored to provide awards to 17 deserving students from Granby and East Granby High Schools. From 2000-2014, the annual scholarship was awarded to one student attending East Granby High School. Starting in 2015 and going forward, as a result of 2013 merger of the Granby and East Granby ambulance associations, a decision was made to create a second scholarship opportunity for students attending Granby Memorial High School.

In 2016, the Granby Ambulance Association and the Mary H. Hausmann Scholarship will be awarding scholarships to one graduating East Granby senior and one graduating Granby senior. Interested students should speak with their guidance counselors for more information about this scholarship and how to apply.
