Unless otherwise noted, all events take place at the Granby Senior Center located within the Municipal Complex at 15 North Granby Road. Membership dues are just $5 annually for Granby residents and $10 annually for non-residents due on Sept. 1. Please call 860-844-5352 for additional information.
Special Opportunities
Holiday Concert: Tuesday, Dec. 8, 12 p.m. Join us for a little holiday music and cheer at the Café Lunch. The elementary school students will perform to get everyone in the holiday spirit.
Holiday Dinner: Thursday, Dec. 10, 5 p.m. Come with your friends or invite a neighbor to have a delightful evening. The menu includes cranberry glazed pork loin, house special potatoes and lemon pepper green beans. Appetizers and desserts will bookend the meal. Live entertainment will have you in the merriest of moods! $6pp. Please make reservation by Dec. 4, call 860-844-5352.
Cookie Decorating: Wednesday, Dec. 16, 1 – 3 p.m. Join Debra Mullins from MeadowBrook of Granby and the Senior Center to decorate cookies and deliver them to the residents of MeadowBrook during this holiday season.
Tara’s Memory Café: Art Party, Thursday, Dec. 3, 2 – 4 p.m. Designed for individuals with early stage Alzheimer’s disease and their care partners. Karen Rossi, visual artist nationally known for her metal sculptures will lead us in forming art pieces from everyday objects. It is a wonderful way to create a personalized holiday gift. The Holidays: Friday, Dec. 11, 2:30 p.m. We are told by the media that the holidays are the most wonderful times of the year but many wonder if that’s true. Come join Colleen Golnik, marriage and family therapist, for an engaging discussion about what is possible for the holidays. Do we put too much pressure on ourselves to fit in and have a good time; how do/can we let go of past hurts and broken relationships to find that sense of peace and belonging during the holidays and the rest of the year too.

Monthly Hearing Clinic: Thursday, Dec. 3, 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. by appointment only. Dr. DiRienzo A.U. and her team will offer hearing tests, wax removal and hearing aid cleanings, all for free. You will also be able to purchase batteries at a discounted rate. Please call for your appointment.
Meditation Workshop with Debra Mullins: Mondays at 10:15 a.m. Meditation allows you to focus your mind and eliminate stress caused by jumbled thoughts. Join us for 45-minute sessions to experience its benefits. Sponsored by MeadowBrook of Granby.
Healthy Minds: Coping with life’s transitions are not always easy. Situations such as the death of a loved one, failing health, strained family relationships or the stress of deciding to leave a home that is too big to manage can be daunting to face alone. Working through feelings of isolation, anxiety, abandonment or failure may ease your mind. On Grief and Loss: Second and fourth Wednesday of the month at 2:30 p.m. Through discussion, sharing and creative activities this group will help you to understand and cope with grief. Whether your loss is recent or was long ago, find support, information and strategies for helping with the grieving process. Facilitated by Jane Johnson, Granby resident and creator of Bryan’s Landing and the Our Children’s Garden in Salmon Brook Park. No charge.
Farmington Valley VNA Blood Pressure Checks: Every Thursday, 11:15 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. in the Community Room. No charge.
Foot Care Clinic with Pedi-Care: Monday, Nov. 30, 8:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. by appointment. A specially trained nurse will assess feet and lower extremities, trim, file and clean nails, smooth corns and calluses, massage feet and make referrals to medical doctor or podiatrist as needed. Cost is $29 at time of service (not covered by insurance).
Reiki Sessions: Second and fourth Tuesday of the month by appointment. Half-hour session cost $20.
Chair Massage: First, third and fifth Tuesday of the month by appointment. Enjoy a 15-minute chair massage for $10.
Grandparent Support Group: Thursdays at 12 p.m. This is a group for grandparents who are raising children.
CHOICES Counselor: Third Wednesday of the month by appointment. Do you need help in understanding Medicare and its supplements? The counselor will help you weigh the medical plan options to find the right plan for your needs. No charge.
Medical Equipment Loaner Closet: Should you need a wheelchair, walker, cane, tub seat or other durable medical equipment contact 860-844-5352. Donations accepted.
Alzhiemer’s Support Group: Third Wednesday of the month at 10 a.m. Dealing with the fears, progression and unknowns of this disease can be overwhelming. Peggy has worked professionally with Alzheimer’s care and is now with the Alzheimer’s Association. Come out learn more from her expertise on the subject. No charge.
Ask the Attorney: First Wednesday of the month at 10 a.m. What do you do when a loved one is suddenly unable to make decisions for themselves? How do you ensure that your wishes will be carried out in the event you can no longer communicate? There are documents that can be put in place to make unforeseen events a little less traumatic. Generic situations can be discussed. Please call 860-844-5352 for an appointment. No charge.

Classes are available six days a week at the Senior Center. Classes are on going, most run for a 6-week cycle and can be joined at any time. Cost $36 for 6 weeks for residents, $40 for neighbors. To determined tehe class that best fits your needs, or to register, contact the office at 860-844-5350.

 Senior Voices, Expressing Yourself through Poetry: Second and fourth Tuesday at 11 a.m. for six weeks. Turn everyday thoughts into written works. No experience necessary. $50 for the session.

Camera Club: First Monday of the month at 7 p.m. Annual membership is $10.
Civic Club: Thursday, Dec. 17, Holiday Program at 1 p.m. All are invited to enjoy GMHS music students while they sing chorale melodies.

Men’s Breakfast: Second Friday of the month at 8:30 a.m. Breakfast is $2.

Senior Van
The Granby Senior Van provides rides for shopping and activities at the Senior Center. Please call 860-844-5353 one week in advance for scheduling. All persons who use the van must have a valid van card. Cost is $10 annually, due in September.

Medical/Dental/Personal Care Appointments
Local appointments (Granby, East Granby, Simsbury) may be scheduled for Mondays and Wednesdays and medical appointments out of the area may be scheduled for Fridays. The Senior Van is equipped with a wheelchair lift for added accessibility. There is no additional fee for local service.
Wesleyan Arts and Crafts and The Davison Arts Center: Wednesday, Dec. 2 departing at 9 a.m. In the morning a visit to the Wesleyan Potters, renowned for it’s holiday crafts sale. The Davison Arts Center houses one of the finest print and photographic collections. Lunch location to be determined. Van cost $4, lunch on your own.
